Savannah Brinson & Lebron James’ First Meeting

Savannah and LeBron were both high-school students when they met for the first time. Although they resided in the same neighbourhood of Akron, Ohio, Savannah is about a year and a half younger than Lebron and did not attend the same school. What adds an extra flavour to this tale is that there has been a long-standing rivalry between their schools. She studied at Buchtel High School, while he was a student of St. Vincent–St. Mary.

By then, LeBron was already a rising star in the youth basketball circuit. After starting to play the game in the fifth grade, he had established himself as a quintessential player in the Fighting Irish roster and won a number of accolades for exemplary performances in the court, including one Mr Basketball USA Award.

Despite growing up in the same locality, they did not know each other. That changed when 17-year-old Lebron saw Savannah, 16, for the first time at a football game and asked her to come — you guessed it — to one of his basketball games. It was there that she got an idea about who LeBron was. “I went, and I was like, Wow, this guy is pretty popular in here,” she told Harper’s Bazaar in an August 2010 interview.

They had their first-ever date at an Outback Steakhouse restaurant. According to Savannah, she realised that LeBron was in love with her when he stopped her before she entered her house and gave her the leftovers she had brought from their dinner, which she had forgotten in his car. She stated that she thought this was “another excuse [for LeBron] to come and see me”.

Savannah Brinson & LeBron James Had Their First Child As Teenagers

Not long after LeBron was chosen by his hometown franchise, Cleveland Cavaliers, as their first overall pick during the 2003 NBA draft., Savannah became pregnant with their first child. As it was already clear that LeBron was meant for great things, there were allegations against Savannah that she was trying to ensnare him with her pregnancy.

She ignored such claims but was terrified at the prospect of teenage pregnancy. LeBron, on the other hand, was calm and collected as usual.

“I was thinking, ‘What am I going to tell my parents? What’s going to happen to his career?'” Savannah reminisced.”I was very scared. I was bawling. But he (James) said, ‘It’s not going to slow me down, and it’s not going to slow you down. We’re going to keep doing what we have to do.”

On October 6, 2004, the couple’s oldest child, LeBron Raymone “Bronny” James Jr., was born in Cleveland.

Hosted by LeBron’s then-teammate Dwayne Wade, the dinner party was attended by many other celebrities. Right after the attendees celebrated the arrival of the new year, Wade, whose job was to keep the engagement ring hidden until the right time, handed it over to LeBron.

LeBron got to his knees and popped the question. She said yes.
